Testimonials for Pediatric Therapy & Yoga of Morris
We've been working with early intervention for PT and added weekly sessions with the incredible Yana Kofman at @theyogawaytherapy. His progress has been phenomenal to say the least. He seems happier and he's more mobile. It's been so exciting to watch after each session he becomes stronger and more mobile. It's truly been a blessing. It's likely a long road of PT ahead of us, but I'm deeply grateful to have access to amazing healthcare and wellness professionals like Yana to help along the way.

My son has been seeing her for only a few weeks and already we are noticing a huge difference in his mobility and his ability to move his body. It's amazing to see the progress. She always makes us feel so welcomed, and in such a short period of time he has already warmed up to her, whereas with other practitioners he doesn't warm to them so easy. She has an incredible intuition, skill, and knowledge. This is definitely her calling, you can tell how passionate she is about what she does and how much she cares for her patients and their overall well being.

She was so much more at peace after the session and she slept well. I still see the effect today.

Thank you for the pics. I showed my mom, she's so happy! He did so well yesterday. I just kept thinking this is the boy who couldn't walk on his own till 18 months who struggled with physical & academic delays. Now he signed up for a sport on his own and is having fun. I know you are a HUGE part of that! Thank you so much for helping his body find its way and his confidence grow!!!

Finding The Yoga Way Therapy Center has been life changing for him. In just a few months the progress we've seen in him is amazing! Not only is his body getting more aligned, but he's also listening to his body and following multiple directions with ease he never had before. His confidence in himself has grown so much. We are just so excited for him to continue and watch him progress! Thank you so much, Dr. Yana!!!

My son was one of Yana Kofman's first private yoga clients when the center opened over 10 years ago. Over the years, she has worked with him to achieve so many goals - improved coordination, balance, strength, confidence, focus - the list is endless. The fact that she and many on her team are licensed PT's and OT's provides them with the unique skills and insights to modify his experience so that he achieves all the benefits of yoga but in a safe, controlled and blissfully enjoyable environment for him. It has such a profound effect on him during his sessions that we often see a notable calming effect in his mood and demeanor in the hours following his session as well. It has transformed him in so many ways and we are proud to say that he is now confident, independent and capable enough to participate in group classes at the studio and is thriving. We are forever grateful to Yana and her team for their tireless dedication to our son. Namaste dear Yana.

I decided to call The Yoga Way after growing frustrated with rounds of various doctor visits that always ended in trying a new medication for my son's ADD & Anxiety. After particularly difficult period with a medication that amplified all of his anxiety symptoms, I decided to stop all medication, and give yoga/OT therapy a try. What a difference! The sense of calm and focus that my son has improved considerably in the past few months. Both friends and family, all of whom were unaware that we had started yoga/OT therapy. commented on how his anxiety had decreased. While anxiety will always be an issue, he is gaining the skills and confidence to control those anxious moments buy using the methods he is learning in yoga. He enjoys coming to this calm, relaxing, and accepting place.
We look forward to continuing with yoga/OT therapy and I can't wait to see what he'll do next. Thank you for all you do!

I have a nine-year-old son with autism, and have been on a journey since his diagnosis at age 18 months to find therapies to help him. You would have a difficult time trying to name an approach I have not tried or researched or am monitoring. We had him in a strict ABA program for several years, until his disruptive behaviors and disregulation became unmanageable. He was in severe distress, without verbal language to express himself and relieve any frustration, so upset that he could hardly engage with us nor learn about the world beyond a few repetitive cartoons on TV. We knew we had to change direction, if only to bring back that long-lost smile, and so we moved him into a developmentally-focused school that cares about building a relationship with our guy, teaching him how to communicate, and views behaviors as symptoms and clues to the underlying causes to treat, not an enemy to eradicate at any cost. We were shifting to an emphasis on the body and the body-mind connection, to guide us through the labyrinth of neuroplasticity and the pursuit of healing for our son. I believe that God Himself heard my pleas for help, bringing me to Yana Kofman and The Yoga Way. We began in July 2014, and I was sure Yana would kick us out: my son would spend the early sessions in absolute panic and resistance: banging his head, screaming, crying, kicking, scratching, biting…and more. His immature nervous system was stuck in reptilian "fight or flight" mode. However, even in the midst of these gut-wrenching (for me) sessions, Yana stayed sweetly calm, focused, determined, the unstoppable adversary of fear, doubt, shutdown, and autism's veil. She was working her magic, moving her expert PT hands to muscle groups and pressure points, to spasms and clenches, always honoring my child's boundaries and competence, telling him what she was doing and asking permission to touch him, to try something new, to push the envelope to where she knew he could go if he would only allow it. He began to learn to relax a bit, to tolerate touch, and above all, to trust Yana. In the cocoon of that trust, he began to follow direction, to imitate, and to then eventually go beyond what was asked of him. From small beginnings, Yana built up into the yoga poses that nurture the brain and body's ability to organize, orchestrate, modulate, integrate, regulate, synthesize—all the miracles that occur every moment of life. Last Thursday, Yana called me in to witness the latest wonder: my son supporting his body weight on his hands, facing downward, and walking his legs unseen up the wall the behind him. Twice in one session, because Yana asked him to. His nervous system is responding, and my delightful little boy is emerging and flourishing. We have also been seeing Maureen Costello, an OT as well as a yoga expert, and she has created her own trusting partnership with my son, filled with growing achievement, hugs, and laughter. For all you autism parents out there, I want to shout from the rooftops to bring your child to The Yoga Way because I want your child to experience the sense of competence, acceptance, joy, and peace that my own child is healing within.
P.S. A shout-out to the wonderful office staff—more of the kind, efficient, and cheerful people whom Yana attracts to her space.

"I just want to express my gratitude for The Yoga Way. I am a nurse and my job requires a lot of being on my feet and taking care of others. I sometimes forget to take care of myself. When I walk through the door of The Yoga Way, I immediately have a sense of peace. I feel fortified as I find the sanctuary within. Everything from the people that work for you to the colors of the walls bring me peace and serenity. Your yoga classes cater to each individual, honoring their bodies by providing extra tools so that people may practice yoga safely without feeling pressure to push themselves further then they feel comfortable with. Thank you for providing such a wonderful spiritual oasis for our community."
Lisa, from Franklin Lakes
My son has been seeing Yana for almost 4 years. Yana has built a tremendous rapport with my son. She is able to connect with him in a way that no other professional has been able to. His sessions are more than PT and yoga, they are multidisciplinary touching on social, emotional and physical. Yana is a talented practitioner with a special way of being firm and structured while keeping things child friendly. We travel a long way to see Yana each week, but all of those miles are worth while!

"I'm so happy to have discovered MY yoga place...in the neighborhood that I live and work. That part feels right BUT the experience I've received has sustained my beginner's interest--different classes and teachers and schedules to choose from. I like all 3 of my classes and teachers that fit my schedule. What's not to like..all this special attention to oneself...different parts of your body from your eyes to your feet. IT FEELS GOOD!"
Barbara, from Morristown
"I have been taking yoga classes for the last 2 years with Lisa. She is warm, encouraging & attentive during class. Making sure we are in correct poses is important and helping make adjustments to optimize benefits. Yana is warm & welcoming to everyone who enters her studio, its no wonder it continues to grow & glow."
Brenda, from Bernardsville
"The Yoga Way is my yoga,"home" where I have begun and developed my regular yoga practice of 1-3 times. The Yoga Way has become an oasis of nurturing and renewal for me. The zen-like atmosphere with fountains and candles is tranquil and unique. I have always experienced a special connection with the space and the people in it. This connection seems to grow as I feel I am growing in mind and body. I experience a very positive energy and spirit in this beautifully felt space with warm and vibrant presence. Over the past 2 years, I have observed my own growth in terms of strength (physical, mental and emotional), flexibility, improved posture, concentration and focus. Those are just a few of the positive benefits of yoga I have experienced since the beginning of my journey. I believe this journey has contributed to enhancing my ability to do the professional work I do as a Psychotherapist as well as in my efforts as a parent and in many other aspects of my life. I had been inspired by my own daughter's participation in a girls' yoga class here and wanted the same for myself! I have been taking classes with Lisa for over 2 years now. She has taught me most of what I know about yoga. I feel it has been a priviledge to have small classes with her, the continuity of having the same teacher, individualized attention to correct alignment, the personalized adjustments and focus on injury prevention. Lisa's kindness, soft voice, gentle touch and extensive knowledge base has been reassuring and nurturing. The newness and variety she adds to each class makes keeps it stimulating and fun. I also enjoy Roz's 7:30 am Friday class. This is a challenging, strength building, faster paced, energizing class. I feel empowered and ready to take on the day. Roz is kind and structures the class flexibly so that all can participate to their level of their ability."

"From the moment my 3 1/2 year old son and I entered Yana's studio we could feel the positive energy that was surrounding us. Proof of this was watching him run up to Yana and initiate an introduction and a hug without ever having met her before. The love, care, and expertise that Yana displays at each visit seems to seep out of her pores, ever so naturally. She can effortlessly detect the imbalances in his body and can work through any of his protective defenses in order to reach the foundation of his weakness and in turn make him stronger. We both leave each session with a peace and confidence that positive change is happening to him (and me!)." Thanks, Yana!

"My husband and I found Yana and Pediatric Therapy & Yoga of Morris just before we adopted our first son from Russia. We knew, prior to his arrival, that he would need some extra TLC here in the US to catch up for the attention and exposure that he had lacked in the orphanage. Even though her schedule was full, Yana was more than happy to work with us. In the following months, her warmth, compassion and support helped to nurture not only our son, but our entire family as well. When we brought our son home, he wasn't even walking on his own, and in a short time working with Yana and her staff, he is walking, climbing stairs, running, jumping, kicking, throwing, and acting like any other little boy his age would. There is no doubt in our minds that Yana's gentle spirit has helped us to achieve our goals. She has become more than a therapist- she is like family to us, and we recommend her without reservation."

"My son is eleven years old and has Down Syndrome. Physical activities, sports in particular, have always been difficult for him due to a lack of coordination and balance and low muscle tone. It's been tremendously difficult to find activities that he truly enjoys and is self-motivated to participate in. Yoga with Yana has been a life changing experience for my son. Yana has such a gentle, loving spirit that he was drawn to her from his very first session. He trusts her implicitly and, because of that, he has allowed her to challenge him in ways that no other therapist has before. In just one year, I have noticed a profound difference in his strength, balance, self confidence, and ability to focus. I can't imagine another activity that would provide as many benefits to him in such a short period of time."
C. G., from Summit
"Thank u sooooo much. The class was amazing on so many levels. On a personal level it goes right into all I've been working on this year...acceptance, openness non-judgment of self. Professionally it brings me back in touch w/my manual body work skills. I'm reinspired to get my hands back on my students. Thank you for an amazing opportunity and for bringing such an amazing group of women together!"
S.G., from Morris County
"My appreciation towards Yana and her amazing team grows every day as I watch my dear S. blossom and make amazing strides on a daily basis.
Thank you!"

Michael
Michael is a 12.5 year-old young man with a diagnosis of Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. Michael has been working with both an Occupational Therapist and a Physical Therapist for 3 years. Michael came to our center due to a desire for therapy to unwind, relax, and increase the range in all of his joints. His therapeutic yoga focus was initially on head control against gravity, lifting his head and bringing it to midline. Currently, Michael is able to sit independently at a chair level, supported by a table in front of him. Michael’s current level of work includes increasing the range of motion in the right hip, standing against the wall with close supervision, transferring from sitting to standing and standing to sitting with minimal assistance, relaxing the body, and utilizing the upper body for eating and cooking preparation. |

Alec
Alec is 17 year-old young man with a diagnosis of Down Syndrome. Alec has been studying therapeutic yoga for over 6.5 years. Alec came to our center due to difficulties with walking up the stairs, rigidity when transitioning from activity to activity, weakness in the abdominal core, balance, focus and concentration, and significant lack of coordination. When Alec started, he presented with preservative and obsessive tendencies in his transition into the session and room, for example, having to wait for everyone in the waiting room to exit before he could transition into the room. Currently, Alec is able to stay in session for the full 45 minutes and continuously and consistently follow the directions of his therapist with the high level of age-appropriate cooperation and focus. He is now working on staying and holding postures for longer than 20 seconds, focusing on moving with breath, and intrinsically motivating himself without any prompt or rewards to optimize his mind and body through yoga. Alec frequently lets us know how much he “loves his Mondays,” how happy he is, and how he always looks forward to coming to yoga. Alec epitomizes the yoga mindset and is able to meditate silently for five to ten minutes. He has learned to understand and appreciate the value of science in the yoga mindset. |
